Beginning as an artist, Sherry Becker has turned her artistic talents toward the healing of her clients' challenges, and has been very successful.
These days many people are finding stress to have a huge impact on their busy lives. Many have turned to counseling to help them along the path to a healthier lifestyle. A Connecticut-based therapist, Sherry Becker, has earned a reputation as a top-flight professional and her services have been sought out by many. Artistic EducationBorn in Brooklyn, New York, Sherry was an only child, and had a very happy childhood. After her elementary education, she attended Fort Hamilton High School and the Pratt Institute, where she began to blossom as an artist, and received her degree in Fine Art from Cooper Union in New York City. Married at nineteen, Sherry had two children, Randy, who is now a pediatric orthopedic surgeon in Florida, and a daughter, Jessica, a documentary film producer. During those early years while Becker was raising her children she was also beginning to show her art work. She, along with a colleague, began the Children's Art Workshop on the Upper West Side of New York City, where they would have exhibits of the children's art work for parents and friends. Art Director for Connecticut Outdoors MagazineAfter a move to Westport, Connecticut, Sherry took a position as art director for Connecticut Outdoors and went on to become a director for a marketing agency in Connecticut for photo shoots. She also freelanced as an art director and graphic designer. It was at this time that Becker, raised Jewish and proud of her heritage, had a spiritual awakening. She began questioning what her life was about and discovered Eastern spirituality. She studied as much as she could and attended an ashram in South Fallsburg, New York, where something opened up within her.She began delving more into Eastern spirituality and meditation. Therapist and CounselorBecker realized that she needed to help people, so she went back to school and earned a BA in Human Services from Springfield College in Massachusetts, followed by a Master's Degree in Social Work from Southern Connecticut State University.. She was now ready to take on the work that has given her so much satisfaction and has helped so many clients. Becker has worked at all the major hospitals in her area...Silver Hill, Norwalk Hospital and the Renfrew Eating Disorder Clinic in Wilton, Connecticut. Private PracticeBecker is now in private practice, where she specializes in anxiety, couples' therapy, and eating disorders. She also presents workshops for abused women. Sherry received training in past life regression with the celebrated Dr.Brian Weiss, author of many books on that subject. She is a cancer survivor and is very sympathetic with those who have also had to deal with this illness. Sherry Becker has come full circle in her professional life and is still painting. At one time she did large abstractions...now she works in watercolors. She says, “I am blessed to be able to do the work I love...helping others.” SourcePersonal Conversations with Sherry Becker, March 2009
